Choosing Furniture for Your Billiard Room

            When deciding what kind of furniture one wants to add to their home rec room, many things must be taken into account.  There are a multitude of choices one can make to add ambience to any rec room, without taking up much extra space.  Bar stools, a felt wall clock, a pub table, or a corner drink cart are just a few ideas.  But when selecting new furniture for your rec room, what are things one should consider? 

            First, and probably most important, is color coordination.  This is essential for any good-looking rec room.  Think about the overall colors of the room first, such as wall paint or floor color and design. Also factor in the colors and styles of larger pieces of furniture already residing in the room, such as a pool table or bar. If you own a pool table with red felt, you will not want shiny, blue bar stools, unless, of course, you really like Superman.  Or if you have a stained oak bar, go with a couple of stained wooden oak bar stools to match. 

            You may also want to consider a possible theme.  Think about what you like.  Do you fancy a certain region of the world?  Or what about a favorite sports team? How about an old west saloon motif?  My rec room sports a St. Louis Rams theme, including items such as bar stools, a dart board, pennants, clocks, steins and so on. With themes, you can do anything, from animal designs to zodiac signs.

            Something else to keep in mind is that different colors have different meanings, and since this is your rec room, try going with colors that reflect who you are as a person.  For example, a more courageous, confident individual may pick brighter red shades, whereas an individual in tune with nature might want some greens or earth tones.  Below is a list of common colors and the more positive feelings with which they are associated:

•  Red symbolizes action, confidence, vitality and courage
• Orange symbolizes endurance and vitality
• Yellow symbolizes happiness and joy, wisdom and intellectual energy
• Green symbolizes nature, life, well-being and fertility
• Blue symbolizes youth, peace, spirituality and truth
• Indigo symbolizes intuition and deep contemplation
• Purple symbolizes royalty, mystery and magic
• Pink symbolizes love and beauty
• Gray symbolizes security and maturity
  
• Gold symbolizes wealth, prosperity and wisdom
• Brown symbolizes convention, earth and order
• Black symbolizes earth and stability
• White symbolizes purity and cleanliness
  

The mood in your rec room must stay positive.  Be sure to pick colors that are best suited to you and the atmosphere you want your rec room to project.

            But remember, try not to overdo it on the amount of furniture you put in your rec room.  You want to keep plenty of space open for easy movement during activities.  A set of bar stools and a pub table looks good next to the bar, or a Tiffany billiard lamp will add style and class to any home pool room, taking up no extra space whatsoever.  Sticking to some or all of these easy suggestions should guide you in making your new furniture choices, adding to your overall rec room experience. Before you know it, you will be spending all of your free time sitting on your new bar stools with your friends, proudly showing your newly decorated rec room to your friends.
